| Frequently Asked Questions |
| Q - How do I decide what Powrwheel model I require? A - To decide what Powrwheel model will be suitable for your Caravan, Boat or Trailer please refer to the Specification Sheet Below. |
| Q - How is a Powrwheel powered? A - A Powrwheel is powered by a 12 volt dc electric motor that is run from a leisure (Deep Cycling) battery. Note Car (Cranking) Batteries are NOT suitable. |
| Q - How does a 12 volt motor manage to move a large caravan, boat or Trailer? A - By using powerful 12 volt dc motors running at approximately 4000 rpm, it is possible by using special design gearboxes to reduce the output by 400 to 1. Therefore with the driving wheel rotating at 10 rpm this will generate tremendous amounts of torque. |
| Q - How does a Powrwheel fix to the caravan, boat or trailer? A - If the caravan, boat or trailer had and external jockey wheel with a quick release clamp then the Powrwheel will just replace this jockey wheel. If this is not available then a jockey wheel quick release bracket can be fitted to the trailer to be moved, this should be done by a qualified trailer engineer. |
| Q - How is the Powrwheel connected to the battery? A - The Powrwheel is supplied with a cable of suitable length to allow is to be connected to the trailer battery. However this cable length must not exceed 5 meters as this could effect the performance of the Powrwheel due to voltage drop in the cable. The cable is supplied with crocodile clips that allow connection to the battery or these can be removed and a permanent connection to the battery terminals made. |
| Q - How does a Powrwheel steer the Caravan, Boat or Trailer? A - Once fitted to the caravan the Powrwheel has a tiller handle that will rotate to steer the caravan, boat and trailer in direction desired. |
| Q - How does a Powrwheel Operate? A - Situated at the top of the tiller handle is a rocker switch (momentary on), pressing the switch will give either forward or reverse movement of the Powrwheel. |
| Q - How does a Powrwheel Stop? A - Once the operator stops pressing a movement button the Powrwheel will automatic stop, this stop is immediate. Should the operator slip or accidental loose control of the tiller handle the trailer will also stop immediately. |
| Q - On what surfaces will a Powrwheel work? A - A Powrwheel is at his most effective on hard solid surfaces; the softer the surface the less traction will be available to drive the trailer. There are grass and gravel tyre available to help with these surfaces. |
| Q - Will a Powrwheel be effective on my tandem axle Caravan, Boat or Trailer? A - Yes a Powrwheel will operate on a tandem axle trailer but to aid with turning it is recommended that using the jockey post that some weight can be removed from the front wheels of the trailer. To prevent damage to the inner tube of the Powrwheel tyre it is recommended that a Foam Filled Tyre is used. |
| Q - How heavy is Powrwheel and what if I cannot move it to fix it to the caravan, boat or trailer A - A Powrwheel weighs about 19 kgs and it can be fitted with a free wheel drive system to allow ease of movement. |
| Q - How can you be sure that a Powrwheel will achieve your requirements? A - No guarantees can be given that the Powrwheel will work for you without using it in your environment, therefore all Powrwheels are sold on a sale or return basis. Should you not be happy with its performance it can be returned to the factory (collected by Powrwheel Ltd) and any monies paid will be refunded in full. |
