| Frequently Asked Questions |
| Q - How do I decide what Powrhitch model I require? A - To decide what Powrhitch model will be suitable for your Caravan, Boat or Trailer please refer to the Specification Sheet Below |
| Q - How is a Powrhitch powered? A - A Powrhitch is powered by either a 12 volt or 24 volt (heavy duty model only) dc electric motor that is run from a leisure (Deep Cycling) battery. Note Car (Cranking) Batteries are NOT suitable. |
| Q - How does a Powrhitch manage to move a large caravan, boat or Trailer? A - By using powerful 12 or 24 volt dc motors running at approximately 4000 rpm, it is possible by using special design gearboxes to reduce the output by 400 to 1. Therefore with the driving wheels rotating at 10 rpm this will generate tremendous amounts of torque. |
| Q - How does a Powrhitch fix to the caravan, boat or trailer? A - The Powrhitch connects to the ball hitch of the trailer, to allow the trailer to move a special clamp plate (mirror image of the ball hitch) is required and this must be locked firmly in position before any movement of the trailer is undertaken. The ball hitch of the trailer must not full rotate 360 degrees in the horizontal plain and if it does then a Powrhitch cannot be safely used with this type of hitch. A fully range of hitch plates is available. |
| Q - How is the Powrhitch connected to the battery? A - The Powrhitch is supplied with a cable of suitable length to allow is to be connected to the trailer battery. However this cable length must not exceed 5 meters as this could effect the performance of the Powrwheel due to voltage drop in the cable. The cable is supplied with crocodile clips that allow connection to the battery or these can be removed and a permanent connection to the battery terminals made. Alternatively the Powrhitch can be supplied with an integral battery (Please note that due to transportation problems we are unable to supply the battery). |
| Q - How does a Powrhitch steer the Caravan, Boat or Trailer? A - Once fitted to the caravan the Powrhitch has a tiller handle that will rotate to steer the caravan, boat and trailer in direction desired. |
| Q - How does a Powrhitch Operate? A - Situated at the top of the tiller handle is a rocker switch (momentary on), pressing the switch will give either forward or reverse movement of the Powrhitch. |
| Q - How does a Powrhitch Stop? A - Once the operator stops pressing a movement button the Powrhitch will automatic stop, this stop is immediate. Should the operator slip or accidental loose control of the tiller handle the trailer will also stop immediately. |
| Q - On what surfaces will a Powrhitch work? A - A Powrhitch is at his most effective on hard solid surfaces; the softer the surface the less traction will be available to drive the trailer. There are grass and gravel tyre available to help with these surfaces. |
| Q - Will a Powrhitch be effective on my tandem axle Caravan, Boat or Trailer? A - As the Powrhitch is towing at the same height as a normal towing vehicle it will have great difficulty turning a tandem axle trailer as it does not have the ability to lift some weight off of the front wheel of the trailer. We can if required fit a jockey post to a Powrhitch so as the wheel can be lifted and better turning obtained, in this configuration foam filled tyre would be required and it is not possible to fit an integral battery. |
| Q - How heavy is Powrhitch and how can I can move it and fix to the caravan, boat or trailer A - A Powrhitch weighs about 20 kgs (battery not fitted) and it is fitted with a free wheel drive system to allow ease of movement. |
| Q - How can you be sure that a Powrhitch will achieve your requirements? A - No guarantees can be given that the Powrhitch will work for you without using it in your environment, therefore all Powrhitchs are sold on a sale or return basis. Should you not be happy with its performance it can be returned to the factory (collected by Powrwheel Ltd) and any monies paid will be refunded in full. |
